More road – less traffic?

More road – less traffic?

A record $500 million is being recommended to be spent over the next five years on transportation improvement. Let every Hillsborough County resident know that the money spent on any additional roads or lanes will reduce traffic only marginally, while increase growth considerably.

In a University of California study done of 30 urban areas, every 10 percent increase in new-lane miles resulted in a 9 percent increase in traffic. The logic is straightforward – new roads attract more residents and businesses and also attract new commuters who save time with newer roads and additional lanes.

It is up to our politicians to promote proper growth – one that puts a premium on attracting high technological and modern biological industry to our county.
